Fourth Fireworks "Best Yet" |
|
The 2009 Siesta Key
Chamber of Commerce Community Fourth
of July Fireworks Celebration was by
all accounts a rousing success.
From the record turnout at the
Chamber's annual on-site VIP Party,
to the delectable gourmet picnic
buffet provided by top area chefs,
to the island sounds of Sunny Jim,
to the awesome fireworks display
itself, a fantastic time was had by
all. Despite monsoons during
the days preceding the event, even
the weather cooperated.
Without the participation of the
following, this year's event would
not have been possible: the 216
individual and corporate sponsors
and in-kind providers; the scores of
volunteers organized by Vern
Johnson, many of whom devoted
months of work to the event; the
members of the 2009 Fireworks
Committee chaired by Aimee
Holmes; the Food Service
subcommittee chaired by Brad
Stewart; Sarasota County
Parks & Recreation department;
Sarasota County Sheriff's
Department; Sarasota County Fire
Department; and the SKCC Board of
Directors and staff. Thank you
all!

Visitor Guide Ad Deadline Nearly Here! |
The Siesta Key
Chamber of Commerce is the area's
primary contact for those
individuals interested in relocating
to, or vacationing on, Siesta Key.
Annually, SKCC receives an tens of
thousands of inquiries, and mails
more than 15,000 copies of the
"Siesta Key Visitor's Guide and
Buyer's Index" to potential
visitors requesting additional
information about the area.
Another 10,000 copies are
distributed locally to visitors.
25,000 copies will be printed and
available to members and the
visiting public by this November.
The deadline for reserving
advertising space in this year's
Guide is nearly here. For
information, contact Trish Ivey at
the Pelican Press at 349-4949.

Savings Tip From the Sarasota County
Tax Collector

Having a birthday
between now and the end of November?
If so, Joe Garofalo of the Sarasota
County Tax Collector's office has a
great money saving tip for you.
On September 1st, for most County
residents the cost of renewing their
license plate or driver's license
will increase by more than 50%.
Florida law allows DMV renewals up
to three months in advance.
Therefore, if your vehicle renewal
month is between now and November,
you can renew now. All
renewals before September 1st will
be at the current lower rate.
In addition, drivers who renew their
license plate for two years will be
able to save twice as much.

Quality Evaluation Result |
MPL Lodgings, Inc.,
owner and operator of the Holiday
Inn Express-Siesta Key located at US
41 and Stickney Pt. Rd, a Chamber
member, announced on July 9 that the
hotel has passed its Quality
Evaluation with a score of 95.67%
and has been approved for the
Holiday Inn Express Relaunch program
to be completed by January 31, 2010.

State
of Florida Uniform Elevator Key
Program
|
Sarasota County Fire
Safety Inspector Katelyn Qualey
reports that effective October 2009,
all elevators in County buildings of
six stories or more will be required
to work with a Region Six Uniform
Elevator Key. Conversion of
existing elevators to this standard
can be expensive, in some cases many
thousands of dollars. Katelyn
informed the Chamber that some
uninformed or unscrupulous elevator
maintenance firms are informing
owners of buildings containing less
than six stories that their
buildings also require such a
conversion, resulting in an
unnecessary expense. The
controlling Florida Statute is Title
XXIX, Chapter 399.15, and can be
viewed on-line by clicking here.
