| Wigglesworth Takes
3rd Place at VA Beach |
Siesta
Key-based master sand sculptor Brian
Wigglesworth and his Canadian
sculpting partner Patricia Leguen
brought home the bronze at a major
master sand sculpting event
held in Virginia Beach last weekend.
The team's third-place finish for
their kneeling geisha included a
$4,000 cash prize. While the
annual week-long event includes
volleyball and surfing events,
the sand sculpting event is the
major draw for the 500,000
attendees, according to Brian. "I
can't help but think how Siesta Key
would benefit from this type of
event. The quality of our sand
would really make it a natural
here," he stated. The
Chamber has been exploring the
possibility of just such an
event.

| Brendan
Coudal Artwork Featured on WEDU |
The
August edition of the WEDU TV series
A Gulf Coast Journal with Jack
Perkins featured Chamber member
Brendan Coudal and his 'New Vintage'
series of paintings. Brendan
is the gifted artist known for his
nature subjects. He is quickly
becoming equally known for his New
Vintage line, which includes
"Siesta Sweetie" (at
left), and for each of which
Brendan's wife Nicole serves as the
model. "Siesta
Sweetie" was selected by the
Chamber for use as the 2010 Visitors
Guide cover, as well as the 2009
SandFest poster. If you missed
the original broadcast, the video is
available for viewing at www.wedu.org/agcj.

| SKCC
Opposes "Hometown Democracy" |
|
Following review by its Government
Issues Committee, the SKCC Board of
Directors at it's September meeting
voted unanimously to adopt a
position opposing the so-called
"Hometown Democracy" 2010
ballot initiative. The
proposed 2010 measure would amend
the Florida state constitution to
require voters to approve all local
comprehensive land use plan changes,
potentially resulting in hundreds of
such decisions on each election
ballot. For more information,
visit www.florida2010.org.
